If you do not already have a traditional type carriage but wish to take part, this is a great way to try Attelage tradition.

This secondary driving competiton is our introductory club level competiton open to competitors who do not have traditional vehicles but wish to take part. The Carriage Driving Challenge will follow exactly the same format as the Attelage de Tradition but with a modern carriage. This class is not affiliated to the AIAT, Competitors will still be expected to be turned out to a high standard in smart traditional Stable attire. (Tweed jackets etc) and expected to demonstarate best practice carriage driving.

The CIAT Picton Attelage de Tradition for traditional vehicles is a three stage competition held over two days and includes:

Stage 1 Presentation

The first stage is a standing presentation where competitors are judged on their appearance, quality and refinement of their carriage by three judges individually. All competitors will be marked on a strict scoring system which will be available for issue after the event.

Stage 2, Routier with Difficulties

The second stage is a 15km marathon with 5 difficulties to test the drivers skill and the horses endurance capabilities. Along the routier, they will encounter 5 challenging 'difficulties' that will test the drivers abilities and the horses obedience as a good driving horse. The routier is timed.

Stage 3. Maniabilité

The final stage is back in the main ring where the competitors have to negotiate a gently sweeping 20 gate cones course against an optimum time. This is designed to test the drivers skill and accuracy.

On completion of the final cones competitor, the results are collated and calculated to reveal our category winners. All competitors are then expected to return into the main arena for the final grand presentation of awards.
